Use of animals when they are able to live in dignity
For thousands of years humans have been using animals. And this is not going to change either, as long as there will be mankind – even if the last doubts will be eliminated that animals are personalities, experience joy or can have fun.
As a matter of fact we know this all for a long time already. What we can really change is the quality of our handling of animals. In this content, ethics, dignity and animal welfare are but some of the pretty strained terms into which we will go in this text. At the top of the proposed improvement measures are instruction and information. “One Health”, a new strategy for a close and constructive cooperation on all fronts involved, provides a promising concept to create added value in shared health of humans, animals and environment.
What about plants? What I especially like about the question on the use of plants, is its inevitably associated relativization of our food habits. Does a moral-ethical gap between meat and plant eaters and their numerous intermediates really exist? Do any of them have the right to discipline or even condemn their counterpart? More…
